I'm really not a good judge of 'granny aesthetic' type things, and I need some honest feedback on this:

Is it too pink? Not pink enough? Have I mentioned yet that I'm really not a designer in any way shape or form? Also I'm a bit of a minimalist, it's a flaw.

I think you may be trying to channel the aesthetic of one of my grandmas. The pink and grey are fine, the cat needs to be brown, or a browner green than acid. I'm not a minimalist and it looks like you still have serifs, so I think it's workable. I have taught myself some color theory, should you want more input.

I know she's the profile pic. But curation takes in all aspects. ;) But yeah, I see the kitty is a standard default, so no reason not to have iterations for your various investigations. I was serious, pink and brown was a thing of my grandma. I have Opinions. I have examples and counterexamples (aka, LEGO doing the thing badly) on which to draw.

I think Bucky would look good in dark brown and whisper pink. Those are all good design options. LEGO just picked pinks that don't 'fit' well with their more identifiable colors. They made sand purple and sand green (I think those and several others were for Star Wars, but I could be off, please, bring that to my channel) work, so that they don't has to be willful.

The doily looks really cool on mobile! I like how it shows through behind the post text boxes. I have a vague sense that it could be a little bit pinker, or incorporate a third color other than pink or gray, but I looked around and it and wasn’t sure *where*, so maybe that’s not actually true. I really like it overall!!

That's cool that on mobile the doily is like an under paper? I'd maybe suggest a slightly darker grey. Pigeon or mouse maybe, but mobile peeps are going to know what's nice for them. And honestly, I know a lot of people do wander about. OT, does anyone know about why some views I get two hover icons in upper right of my comments typing window? (it's not happening right now. I think it happens when I go to someone's channel. Where I am right now isn't exactly clear.)

@oulfis It sort of depends on what is controllable separately in themes/schemes. Which, I've no clue. That may vary in the dependent according to the parent.

I was actually thinking I might need another colour for the links. There doesn't seem to be enough contrast there. But I'm also not sure what colour exactly.

I check pages between different devices. My biggest problem with this one is the epic difference between my laptop display and my tablet display. My tablet makes everything super saturated, and it messed with the pink something chronic. It ended up really pale on the laptop because of it.

@peoriapeoriarhetoriawhereart those hover icons are only in the top level post box. They don't exist in comment fields.

Can you have the links pink when fresh and go to brown (far enough off the black text) if they've used it/been there? Ah, well, I guess I'll get better working around them.

I like the sound of more colourful links! And/or maybe a subtle colour for the H1 headers? For more "12 year old girl" aesthetic I'd consider a light blue or a purple rather than brown, though brown could also look really nice. I definitely like the idea of them changing colour based on whether they've been visited, such a useful feature.

I don't know if I'd put brown with the grey, but I might have a play with a cyan or purple, and a different colour for visited links :)

I am meaning brown like bitter chocolate or dark leather couch. In the real world there are purples just on the edge;I don't know how color is specified for this environment (hex, RGB wheel, names, tarot). For utter grandma, brown could be 1970s chocolate ice cream. (That was my grandma.)

Ah, that shade does sound lovely! I could see that working. The cyan comes in because my style is sort of a mash-up between 'fussy grandmother' and 'rich 12-year-old girl' as opposed to pure granny style :)

Wow, 2 months, I suck at stick-with-it-ness (but I knew that already). Anyway, finally I got back to this. I've gone with a cyan-y kind of blue for links and background, and a pinkish-reddish for the titles, and flagged the purple (because it really didn't work) and the alternate colour for visited links (It's not something I personally like, so I couldn't make myself do it, also because it was creating confusion between what was a link and what was a heading).

Anyway, here's the new version:

@sandbox is still wearing it if you'd like to have a poke around.

Looking for direction on Redbasic scheme creation, basically. I'm not a designer but I'm a passable CSS-monkey, so if there's a colour scheme or whatever you'd like the option of in a scheme, please give me something to do ;)

Throw whatever ideas, colours/palettes, whatever at me, there's stuff I won't be able to do until I get my head around actual theme creation, but until then, there's a lot possible just with a scheme, so.

Oh I'm sure it is, and that was my original plan. I had some issues with making themes I didn't have the chops to sort out though, so I went with simply giving my hub a default scheme.

I posted about it here.
